A man who tried to kill a woman and two young children by causing a car crash in Moray has been jailed.
Steven Phillipson was a passenger in the vehicle when he grabbed the steering wheel and pulled the handbrake, causing it to veer off the A941, near Elgin, in 2023.
The 34-year-old was given an extended sentence of more than nine years, seven of which will be behind bars.
Phillipson was found guilty of attempted murder, abduction and other offences last month.
Police Scotland issued a statement following the sentencing at the High Court in Inverness today.
A spokesperson said: "A man has today been sentenced for attempted murder in Moray in 2023.
"Steven Phillipson, 34, was arrested and charged after grabbing the steering wheel and pulling the handbrake of a car being driven by a 31-year-old woman and which was also carrying two children.
"He was jailed for seven years at the High Court in Inverness on Wednesday, 16 July, 2025, and given a 99-year non-harassment order."
Detective Constable Lynne Cowie added: “Phillipson’s dangerous actions risked the lives of three people and he will now face the consequences of his actions.
“Endangering the lives of others will not be tolerated and we will rigorously pursue those responsible for such crimes and ensure they are brought to justice.”
