A 24-year-old driver has been killed in a car crash in Moray.

Daniel Gordon, from the Elgin and Lossiemouth area, died at the scene on the B9089 Roseisle to Kinloss road at around noon on New Year's Day.

His family are aware and have said they are devastated by the loss'', Police Scotland said.

The collision involved two Volkswagen Polos - one red and one blue.

The other vehicle caught fire but the occupants managed to get out before the emergency services arrived.

The 80-year-old woman who was driving was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, while her 59-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Sergeant Steve Manson said: We would appeal to anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision, or who was on the road at the time, to contact police on 101.

We would particularly like to talk to a man who was walking nearby and gave assistance to the injured parties.''
