Man dies after dinghy capsizes off Fortrose

Emergency services unable to save 73-year-old man airlifted on Monday

A man who was taken to Raigmore Hospital after his dinghy capsized off Fortrose on Monday has died.

At 0920 on the 27th of June emergency services went to the aid of to a man spotted in the water at Fortrose Bay, on the Black Isle.

He was thrown into the sea after his dinghy over-turned, forcing him into difficulties, about 600-metres away from Fortrose Bay campsite.

Emergency services arrived at the shore there where a man had washed up.

Scottish Ambulance Service and Coastguard tried to help 73-year-old Peter Jones on the scene, and he was airlifted to h ospital in Inverness where he sadly died.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
