A man has died after a crash involving a motorcycle and a car on a busy Highland road.

The collision happened on Thursday afternoon near the Braemore junction on the A835, the main route in and out of Ullapool.

Police, who were alerted to the incident at 2.35pm, have not confirmed whether the man was on the bike or in the car.

The road was closed following the crash to allow investigations to be carried out.

A number of people delayed on the road were due to travel on the CalMac ferry to the Western Isles, police said.

A Facebook posting from the force's Highlands and Islands division said:

“Police Scotland have been in discussion with CalMac who have confirmed that those passengers who have missed the ferry will be able to travel on the freight ferry which should be leaving between 3am and 4am on Friday morning.

“Drivers should make their way to the ferry terminal as normal. The public are thanked for their patience in this matter.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 101.
