Man who died in Hogmanay River Garry incident named

Police identify man who died after River Garry incident on Hogmanay.

Police have named a 36-year-old man who died following an incident in the Rivery Garry on Hogmanay, as Petrus Janse Van Rensburg from Buckinghamshire.

Emergency services were called at the River Garry, near Invergarry, after receiving a report of two men in difficulty on the river at around 12.28pm on Thursday 31st December.

Two men were reported to have gone into the water after falling from a canoe.

Both men were taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment but sadly one of the men died.

The other man was later released from hospital.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
