Man charged with Hilton murder

A 70 year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of Elizabeth MacKay.

A 70 year-old man's been arrested and charged with the murder of Elizabeth MacKay. He'll appear at Inverness Sheriff Court tomorrow.

Ms Mackay was found at her home in Hilton last Thursday.

She was discovered by two friends paying an impromtu visit to see Ms Mackay on the 31st of March at 4:45pm.

The deceased had few contacts within the local community and lived alone, although had been previously married.

Police announced on Monday that they would be making a through investigation of CCTV footage to piece together the 60-year-old's final moments.

Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie had said: "Liz was a very private individual who kept herself to herself most of the time"

Described as someone "who wouldn't hurt a fly" the murder shook the local community a decade after another killing took place there.

The body of hairdresser Ilene O'Connor was found buried the a garden at Kintail Court in 2006.
