Lorry Crash Legal Helpline Launched
A legal advice helpline for people affected by the Glasgow bin lorry crash has been launched by the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC). Six people were killed and 10 more injured after a bin lorry lost control in the city's Queen Street and George Square almost two weeks ago. Trade union members and their families are entitled to free legal representation. Ian Tasker from the STUC said: Everyone in the union movement was shocked by the events in George Square.
People out doing their Christmas shopping were caught up in a horrific accident that no one could have predicted. Our heat felt sympathies go out to the families affected" Coming one year on from the events of the Clutha tragedy the STUC feels very strongly that people who have lost loved ones or people that have been injured are made aware that they have the right to the best legal representation from their union's lawyers."
As with the Clutha tragedy we want people to call our helpline rather than seek legal advice from lawyers who may charge them substantial sums of money for their services.'' He added: Any person who is a trade union member or, in most cases a family member, related to a trade union member is entitled to expert legal representation."
This service is free and comes as part of their trade union membership.'' Those affected by the tragedy are encouraged to contact their trade union for further information.
