Lochhead looks to deliver change with debate on excessive surcharges

The MSP claims his campaign has gathered momentum with plans to tackle huge delivery fees for Moray & Highland

Richard Lochhead says there needs to be a two pronged approach to the problem

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead wants to tackle unfair delivery charges with a debate at Holyrood looking to address concerns which have been raised by several of his colleagues at the Scottish Parliament.

Over 1600 people have signed Mr Lochhead's petition here

"It's ripping off people - especially at this time of year"

In some cases this can be four times as much with around 30% more being the norm for north consumers.

Mr Lochhead says "It's now gone national across the whole of the north of Scotland, people are just fed up, in some cases there's no justification for these charges"

"One main issue has been that a large part of Scotland isn't considered on mainland - despite the fact it is - and some large companies do not deliver to this area, or charge eye-watering fees for that service"

"That's outrageous - it's ripping off people - especially at this time of year"

"The Scottish Government have new powers over consumer advice, meaning we can arm our consumers against these companies who are trying to rip them off"

"The second part of our approach is looking for the UK Government to start regulating parcel delivery companies to prevent this kind of thing from happening with atrocious excessive surcharges"
