LISTEN: Weir wants improved Elgin showing in Irn-Bru Cup
Weir points to "poor performances" and "poor defensive errors" for recent slip ups
Elgin City head to Falkirk in this weekend's Irn-Bru Cup looking for a lift after missing out on much-needed League Two points in their last two outings.
Black & Whites boss Jim Weir says, "It's been really disappointing that we haven't taken anything from the games - we've dropped six points from having been in good positions"
"The Arbroath game we created a lot of chances, had we got in front we would've won the game, but we had a late sucker-punch"
"Against Forfar we began really well, but failed to capitalise, had a really slow start in the second half, and we really paid the price for some poor performances and some poor defensive errors"
Chris McLeish bagged a brace away to the League Two leaders last week, and despite twice going in front, Elgin lost 3-2. Weir says;
"We had chances to increase our lead at Forfar, but when you get in at half-time 2-1 in front, they were certainly the happier for the whistle"
"We were slow out of the traps and their goal gave them the lift, we had a great chance at 2-2 where their 'keeper makes a fantastic save, and then they score with their only other attack in the second half"
"My 'keeper's had little to do, yet he's picked the ball out of the net three times"
This week Weir looks ahead to another match against Falkirk, having met earlier in the season in the League Cup:-
Weir may freshen his side at the weekend given recent performance, with the only absentee being Scott Smith.
There was some bad news this week with the loss of Cammy Mackay, who has been recalled by his parent club Caley Thistle following an injury to Ryan Esson. Weir says;
"We've still got Stewart Black, we had been looking to put him out on loan, but obviously he'll have to come back in - whether it's this week or next week - we need to make a decision on whether we play Cammy in his last game before he goes back to Inverness"
"We've got a league game after the cup match to think about and it's just unfortunate that they (Caley Thistle) have had an injury to their no.2"
