LISTEN: 'Strong Opposition' To Inverness Vets Lab Closure

There's been 'strong opposition' to plans to close a veterinary lab in Inverness.

That's according to a report by Scotland's Rural College after a 6 week consultation.

It had proposed shutting the Drummondhill site as part of cost cutting measure.

The Disease Surviellance Centre carrys out post mortums on dead live stock.

Responses said it was vital for ensuring the health of farm animals in the region.

One option considered was the possiblity of examinations carried out on farms.

But, this was dismissed in a letter from 20 private vet staff, concerned about the impact on health and safety.

Recommendations will be made to the Rural Affairs Minister, with a final decision expected in due course.
