Resignation over controversial tilting pier development for Inverness

Published 3rd May 2016

The man in-charge of the group pushing plans for a tilting pier on the banks of the River Ness in Inverness has resigned.

The so-called public art installation set to cost £300,000 has been controversial at a time of massive cuts to Highland Council's budgets.

As a result the Chair of the working group behind the proposed development has resigned from the post with immediate effect.

In a Facebook post Councillor Ken Gowans says he doesn't believe that the tilting pier will have "any realistic chance of public support."

He claims to be willing to take personal public criticism for what he strongly believes in, but says it's unreasonable to ask him to do the same for a project he is "not personally in favour of."
