The Scot, who has set records around the world, will attempt to complete the 500 mile route in a single run.

He set off from Inverness Castle this morning.

His route will take him around the north clockwise, from Applecross to Durness and John O' Groats, before heading back down the A9.

MFR News speaks with Mark Beaumont...

Speaking to MFR News this morning, Mark said: "I've just come off the back from breaking the Cairo to Cape Town record, but this is different; It's one non-stop push.

"I'll get to the west coast and tackle Sutherland when I'm still relatively fresh.

"Unfortunately I'll not get to see much of the scenery as I'll be riding through the night, but I should be on the road back to Inverness by tomorrow afternoon.

"The nemesis for any cyclist is the wind, so as long as it doesn't pick up too much then I don't mind about the weather."
