LISTEN: RAC Sorry Over Moray Pothole Claim
The motoring organisation apologised to the local authority over claims about pothole claims.
The RAC is apologising to Moray Council over incorrect pothole claim figures.
The motoring organisation reported pay-outs by the local authority were the highest in Scotland.
In the press release from the RAC, figures showed that Moray Council had paid out more claims than any other Scottish authority. In reality the council had paid out just one claim of £400 in the last two years.
In their apology to the council the RAC blamed a 'transcribing error' and have corrected the figures on their website version of the release.
A spokesman for the council said: "Moray Council area roads are not immune to pothole problems but consistently in the top three in independent condition surveys
"It is disappointing that the RAC can make such an error, and one has to wonder how accurate the rest of the number-crunching was.
"Our residents will have gained a false picture of how we and our insurers deal with compensation claims, which we are glad to be able to put right.
"It does show that, even with releases from high-profile organisations, it's worth making a call to confirm the local facts."
