No one on duty at Dalcross. Official travelled from Aberdeen.

The Border Force is being urged to "get its act together" at Inverness Airport after an incident there yesterday.

No one was on duty to check passengers' passports, so an official had to travel all the way from Aberdeen.

Almost 100-people, who were onboard the KLM flight from Amsterdam, were affected by the delay.

They had to wait two-hours before being allowed to leave the terminal at Dalcross.

Highland capital MP Drew Hendry told MFR News: "We've worked hard in this area to bring new flights; new routes into the area to increase tourism, and this is a terrible signal to send to those people visiting Inverness and the Highlands.

"The UK Border Force has put Inverness Airport in an impossible position.

"We're an area that looks to attract tourists; to attract people to do business here, and to have visitors hanging about because they couldn't get their act together to have staff on site is simply unacceptable."

The Home Office has apologised and says it's investigating what happened.

A spokesperson told our news team: "We apologise to anyone inconvenienced at Inverness Airport.

"Border Force sets high standards for its performance and we are conducting an investigation into what happened today."
