LISTEN: MP calls for urgent meeting over Fort George closure risk

Opposition's growing over closure threat to Fort George

The possible closure of the army barracks near Ardersier is "an insult to the whole of the Highlands".

That's according to the MP for Inverness who's calling on defence chiefs to leave historic Fort George alone.

Drew Hendry says MoD plans to get rid of 30-per-cent of its UK-wide estates is "deeply insensitive".

He told MFR News: "I've requested an urgent meeting with the Secretary of State for Defence, and the Secretary of State for Scotland.

"They should come here to the Highlands and face people locally over this issue."

The UK Government says no decision's been made yet on any site across Britain.
