LISTEN: Moore backs gritty City points over pretty performances

Elgin City head to Montrose in this weekend's League Two fixture at Links Park, looking to replicate October's 5-0 success in their last outing there.

Sadly for the Black & Whites, that emphatic win was also the last time they recorded three points on the road, and recent results have seen City stutter against the top sides in the league.

Following on from the 3-2 defeat at Arbroath - having led 2-0 - Monday saw City draw 2-2 with League Two front-runners Forfar, who had former Ross County defender Stuart Malcolm red carded.

Having failed to make the extra man count in the last half-hour, Elgin winger Daniel Moore said:

"It's disappointing, and yes it seems like a defeat getting a draw against 10-men, but coming from behind against the team that's top of the league and getting something is a positive, because we've not yet done that this season"

"There were a couple of errors again defensively against Forfar, and you'd say we should be seeing out the game, but that's maybe the difference between ourselves and them. People often say we're the best footballing side in the league, but that doesn't count for much when you're not grinding out wins from draws and draws from those matches which might end up defeats"

Elgin have won 5-0 and 4-1 against Montrose this season, but there has been an upturn in form under their new manager Stewart Petrie - formerly at Ross County under Dick Campbell.

Elgin boss Jim Weir is making continued efforts to strengthen at Borough Briggs and Daniel believes City need to keep up their push at the top of the table:-

City have Kieran Stewart out for another week with his Achilles problem, while Scott Smith - who's been out since early in the season with an ankle injury - will resume training in around 6 weeks. Back from a ban is Thomas Reilly following his red card in the match at Arbroath.
