LISTEN: MOD cost-cutting could lead to Moray base closure

Uncertain future for Kinloss Barracks according to Moray MP

Published 15th Aug 2016

It has emerged that Kinloss Barracks will not be immune from a review into potential base closures.

Moray's MP Angus Robertson is claiming a defence official has told him the site's future is being considered.

It is part of a UK-wide rethink on military spending which could lead to defence site closures, although no decisions have been made yet.

There is already a campaign to prevent Fort George near Ardersier from being shut.

Reacting to the revelation, local MSP Douglas Ross told MFR News: "Everything is up in the air at the moment. Nothing has been officially confirmed. I don't want people to be alarmed or concerned. There's a long way to go with this, but they can be assured politicians of all parties just want the best deal for Moray and we've got to ensure that we get that."
