LISTEN: Inverness woman becomes Scotland’s first full time female rugby player

Inverness woman – Jade Konkel – has become Scotland’s first full time female rugby player.

The 22-year-old who grew up in the Black Isle has appeared 23 times at an international level already.

Scottish Rugby have now selected her as a stage three player in the BT Scottish Rugby Academy.

It comes as part of the governing body’s commitment to developing the competitiveness of the women’s game.

Konkel will complete a full-time programme at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld.

The player also still hopes to continue with occasional work as a veterans’ care assistant for former employee Erskine.
