Phase 1 of the West Link works are underway, the project to provided the link between the southern distributor road and the A82, including the Canal Parks Enhancement works. Phase 1 is due for completion in 2017 with initial works on the A82 Glenurquhart Road at its junction with Bught Drive. The works at this location are likely to last for 6 weeks, with traffic management in place. Motorists are advised that they may experience some delays when travelling through this area and when accessing and exiting Inverness Leisure Centre. Leader of Highland Council, Cllr Margaret Davidson said: “It is good to see this section of the work underway. The West Link will deliver significant economic benefits to the city and surrounding area, reducing congestion and enabling construction jobs and housing development. It is anticipated that almost £4 in economic benefit will be achieved for every £1 spent on building the road alone” The West Link forms part of the Council’s contribution to the City-Region Deal investment by partners, agreed in March 2016. It is also hoped to deliver a 25% reduction in traffic crossing the River Ness in town. Colin Howell is Head of Infrastructure for Highland Council:-
