MFR News understands that a gritter was on its way to the spot where two fire engines slid off the road near Culloden, as they were on their way to the scene of another accident.

It’s believed black ice could have played a factor in the appliances toppling off the B9006 and Highland Council say a maintenance team were out salting the roads and were en-route to that area from Croy.

Councillor Thomas Prag has been speaking to our reporter John Rose and says it's a big area to cover:

Five firefighters were treated at Raigmore Hospital following the accident in Newlands on Saturday.

Police Scotland’s still investigating the cause of the crash.

A Highland Council spokesperson said: “Roads were gritted according to Highland Council policy and priority on the morning of Saturday 6 Feb. The policy for gritting roads on Saturdays is between 6am – 9pm.

"Our gritter had been out on its policy route and was travelling from Croy on the B9006 when it came across the accident near Sunnyside.”
