LISTEN: Endurance runner completes 120 mile Portree to Inverness challenge
Ally K makes it to Maggie's after heroic effort for cancer care charity
After setting off on midnight Wednesday, to midday on Friday, Alistair MacPherson has completed an epic 120 mile journey from Portree to Maggie's Highlands centre in Inverness. His knees might be in a bad way, and he'll need a few days to recover, but clutching a cup of tea he spoke to MFR News to describe how it was to achieve his goal of running non-stop from Skye to Maggie's:- Hugh Campbell, Project Manager, said: "It was quite a big undertaking, and I'm a good friend of Ally's, and I came on board and decided to help with the PR"
"I hope more people will become aware of the centre now following on from Ally's achievement"
"Ally trained very hard, he did a long run of 50 miles to see how he'd go, and it was very controlled so we knew he'd put in a good performance"
"We always knew he'd complete it because he doesn't give up and he doesn't quit"
"We wanted to make it as comfortable as possible, he'll be feeling it for a couple of days, but he's been more dedicated since his last challenge so he'll be better prepared for it"
"We go a nutricianist involved who tailored his diet and all this helped combine to make Ally finish strong"
"For something like this most of it is mental, you do need the physical attributes, but you need to be really mentally tough"
"Many people would've thrown in the towel, Ally K MacPherson but he does not quit, he's toughed this one out, he has got it upstairs and knows how to handle hard situations"
"The cause is fantastic, being based behind Raigmore, it's ideally placed. The excellent work that Maggie's do I can't stress enough, even simple things for people like to have a coffee and dicuss a diagnosis, but it's a great cause and we hope more people use the services they offer" To donate to Ally's cause please click here
