LISTEN: Dingwall community share initiative sees strong interest
Many local people look to take up the chance to own their share of a community distillery project
An initiative to deliver a distillery to Dingwall in a community ownership project has seen strong interest in the opening month since shares were made available, as they have already raised a third of their funding target.
Community Shares Scotland and Glen Wyvis Distillery Community Benefit Society are seeing steady uptake in shares following their recent share launch with a current total of £517,174 in pledges.
Glen Wyvis based in Dingwall aims to create Scotland's very first community-owned craft whisky distillery, raising over £1.5m of investment that will help to put whisky distilling back at the heart of Dingwall.
To ensure a high level of local ownership of the distillery, locals living in “IV” postcode areas can invest for as little as £250. The build is scheduled for this Summer, with the first run of whisky set for Burns Night next year.
Kelly McIntyre is from Community Shares Scotland:-
The distillery is the brainchild of John F Mckenzie, supported by a board of directors and local community representatives. John said: “We are seeing a very strong early interest in our community share offer, so we are urging people to move quickly on investing. It is a great chance to be a part owner of a Scottish distillery and make a social investment that will benefit the local community too"
