The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after an emaciated dead dog was discovered in woodland in Elgin.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Tuesday after a member of the public made the grim find while out walking in Mayne Wood.

The dog, a small female German shepherd crossbreed, was found wrapped up in a curtain and was wearing a pink collar. There was also a duvet beside her.

MFR Reporter Derek Ferguson speaks to Senior Inspector Lesley Crockett about the discovery...

Senior Inspector Lesley Crockett said, “A post mortem examination revealed this poor dog died of malnutrition.

"She was very underweight and would have needed vet attention.

“Her body was discovered in a very open part of the woods and we are keen to find out who left her there.

"Our enquiries are on-going and we’re appealing to anyone who recognises the description of the dog and can tell us who owned her, or anyone who spotted someone acting suspicious in the area, to get in contact with us.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
