LISTEN: City eager for consistency ahead of important home games
It's the first of a hat-trick of home fixtures this weekend, with Elgin looking to build on last weekend's League Two win at Montrose, when Annan head to Borough Briggs.
Elgin City entertain Annan this weekend in what's the first of three home matches at Borough Briggs in the month of January.
Last week it was a convincing 3-0 at Montrose, marking City's first away win since October on League Two duty.
Assistant boss Gavin Price said: "The clean sheet was pleasing, given how we let ourselves down in both the Arbroath and Forfar games defensively"
"That said, the back four - the team as a whole - worked really hard for that win at Montrose"
"We said that January was going to be a big month, and we were a bit down in the dumps before Christmas with the Arbroath game, then having a two week break to sit things out"
"We've had to re-group, and the Forfar game could've been better, but the Montrose game was a good performance, and it sets off the month well, given how we've now three games at home to tackle"
Elgin after Annan face Caley Thistle on Scottish Cup duty, then they round off the month with a match against the improving Edinburgh City, a side who've gone from not being about to win in their first 17 games, to only losing two of their last 11.
Looking at recent results for the Black & Whites, Gavin Price said:
"We just need a bit more consistency as we've undoubtedly got a great team when we're firing on all cylinders"
"You might've thought a while ago Annan weren't really in the mix, but two-or-three wins and they're back up in contention for the play-offs"
"There's wee areas where it's so tight and a couple of defeats - as we saw at the start of the season - can do you so much damage"
Here's Gavin's thoughts on Saturday's opponents Annan:-
Elgin are still in the process of trying to recruit in the January window, with manager Jim Weir earlier in the month expressing his frustration at not being able to bring in bodies, with Gavin echoing the difficulties for the Moray club:
"We're still tirelessly looking to strengthen, we've made a lot of phonecalls, we're still actively seeking and Jim's been away this week looking at players"
"It's a difficult task sometimes in getting players to make the switch to Borough Briggs, but from the testimony of those who do come, they realise we're a great club and they always talk highly of the support"
"It's just getting over that first part to convince players to make that step"
"We're certainly not losing hope of getting fresh faces in - we're still trying, we do need to strengthen - however we're not in the business of signing just for the sake of it, they have to come here and improve our chances of progress this season, so we'll continue to search"
