Light Aircracft Crashes In Perthshire

A light aircraft carrying two people has crashed near a village.

Emergency services were alerted this afternoon when the aircraft failed to land in its scheduled slot at Dundee airport.

The plane was due to land at around noon but communication was lost around four miles west of the hub, Police Scotland said.

Coastguard teams and the RAF were involved in the search and the aircraft has now been located near the village of Abernyte, Perthshire.

No information has been released on the condition of those on board.

A police statement said: Police can confirm that following loss of contact with a light aircraft, believed to be carrying two people, due to land at Dundee airport at around midday today an aircraft has been located near to the village of Abernyte in Perthshire.

Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene.''

The plane is thought to have been travelling from Inverness to Dundee, which is a base for light aircraft.
