Two kayakers have been saved after capsizing near Findhorn Bay in Moray.

Coastguard teams from Burghead and Nairn rushed to the scene yesterday afternoon at around 2:30pm.

The Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation boat was also sent along with a helicopter from Inverness.

HM Coastguard - Moray posted on Facebook saying the outgoing tide was pulling the pair further out to sea and both had been in the water for some time.

A statement said: "Arriving on scene quickly, the kayakers were rescued by MIRO, handed over to the Coastguard Rescue Officers in Findhorn and assessed by the Winchman Paramedic from the helicopter before being allowed to go home.

"As the weather improves, we are happy to see more more people out enjoying our coast. We have some key messages for kayakers and those out and about across the area:

"Always carry a means of calling for help and have it somewhere easy to reach.

"Always wear a personal floatation device.

"Check weather forecasts and tide times.

As soon as the paddlers got into difficulty today, they were able to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard without delay.

"If you see anyone in difficulties at sea or along the coast, dial 999 for Coastguard."
