Junction closure at A82 in final phase of water works
Valve replacement works require a 48-hour closure at Kenneth Street
Scottish Water is making final preparations for a weekend of work in Inverness to relocate four valves which play a crucial role in the water network that serves customers in the Dalneigh and Ballifeary areas.
The location and depth of the excavation needed to remove the old valves means that the work can only take place with the junction completely closed to traffic. Months of planning with road authorities and other stakeholders identified a 48 hour period this weekend as the least disruptive time for this to take place. The junction will close from 7am on Saturday 15th of September, re-opening before 7am on Monday the 17th September.
Clearly signposted diversions will be in place for traffic using the A82 via General Booth Road and Muirtown; and via the West Link road and Sir Walter Scott Drive.
Scottish Water’s Project Manager Ailsa Shaw said: “Completing this work and removing the old valves is essential to make sure we can continue to provide customers in this part of Inverness with clear, fresh water, reducing the risk of interruptions. It will also remove a potential cause of unplanned disruption to traffic; and give all road users a smoother journey through the junction in future.
“We do recognise that closing this junction is disruptive at any time and I would like to apologise for any inconvenience that is caused. I would urge drivers to allow some extra time for their journeys and to make use of the signposted diversions.”
