Irn-Bru manufacturers A. G. Barr has recalled some of its products due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the caps to “pop off” without warning.

The affected batches are contained to 750ml glass Irn-Bru Regular and Irn-Bru 1901 bottles.

The manufacturer issued the warning on Friday and announced the codes of affected batches, which can be found on the necks of bottles.

A. G. Barr clarified that this is an “infrequent, intermittent fault".

The company said: "The liquid in the bottle is good and tastes as you would expect.

“As a precautionary measure, we are asking consumers who have the affected batches of Irn-Bru Regular and Irn-Bru 1901 in 750ml glass, to open the bottles with care to release the pressure.

“The bottle should be handled carefully, pointed away from the body at arm’s length.”
