Inverness mum speaks of torment as man admits causing her son's death in crash
Kyle Robertson died following a two car collision near Garve in 2018
The mother of a man killed in a crash has told of her torment over her loss after a motorist admitted causing his death by dangerous driving.
Kyle Robertson, 20, from Smithton, died following a two-car collision on the A835 near Garve in the Highlands on Sunday February 25 2018.
Mikey Durdle, 23, admitted causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh earlier today.
He was released on bail and will be sentenced in March at the High Court in Aberdeen.
In a statement released afterwards, his mother Lorraine Robertson said: 'For the last 23 months we have been plagued with unanswered questions.
'It is tremendously cruel to have your child taken from you in such circumstances and to not have a clear understanding as to how, or why, is tormenting.
'It has tormented my thoughts ever since.'
She added: 'Kyle was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a baby and his father and I treasured every day we had with him.
'We always thought we would get a chance to say goodbye to the lad with the unforgettable smile but that was sadly taken away from us.
'Our son loved his life, he was happy and was a hard-working young man with so many friends. He was the life and soul of our family and had a heart of gold.
'He was also incredibly close to all his nieces and nephews, and they talk about him every day.
'We hope that today will bring some peace to our lives, and we continue to hold onto that hope.''
Karyn McPhee, who is representing the family, said: 'Today has been long awaited by Kyle's family.
'The tragic loss of his life has had a ripping effect of devastation throughout their lives and although no sentence will bring him back, we hope that today will provide some sense of justice.'
