Four Merchant Navy Cadets have been left stranded on Hanjin Louisiana as a result of the shipping company recently going into receivership.

Despite being due to arrive home a couple of weeks ago, the cadets have been left adrift in the Indian Ocean – as Hanjin continue to refuse to dock their ships for fear of their ship and goods been seized.

The cadets have had little communication about when and if supplies will be replenished and uncertainty continues as Hanjin seem to be making no progress in the courts.

Ruairidh Hanna, one of the students on-board the Hanjin Louisiana asked his family to contact SNP Westminster Transport Group Leader, Drew Hendry to ask for his assistance having exhausted all other avenues.

Commenting the MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey said: “The news, earlier this month that, Hanjin - the 7th biggest shipping company in the world - was in to receivership sent shockwaves through the industry – however the human cost of this situation is still little known with over 2,500 seafarers stranded out at sea, including these four cadets." “After Ruairidh got in touch, my immediate concern – and that of my colleagues - was to get him and his colleagues home to their families"

“I have now written to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to ask that he personally intervene on this matter"
