Inverness Castle and Ness Bridge will be lit up in red every evening until 11th November to show support for the 2015 Scottish Poppy Appeal.
A Field of Remembrance opened to the public in Cavell Gardens on Monday 2nd November, with the Provost of Inverness, school pupils and members of the Military Wives Choir amongst the first to plant crosses.
Soldiers from 3 SCOTS, The Black Watch 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland joined together at their Fort George base to create a stunning poppy tribute.
The Army’s enthusiasm and support for the Appeal is being echoed all over Inverness. A reception took place in the Town House, hosted by the Provost and attended by volunteers and supporters of Poppyscotland, the charity that runs the annual campaign. Tins and poppies are available across the city and two poppy-up shops are to be open. The theme of the 2015 Scottish Poppy Appeal is Donate like you mean it and Poppyscotland is aiming to raise as much money as possible so it can continue to support those in the Armed Forces community who need it most.
Poppyscotland’s Head of Fundraising Colin Flinn said: “Our welfare centre in Inverness is making a huge difference to the lives of many in the Armed Forces community. We rely on public donations and it’s thanks to local people getting behind the Appeal that we can continue to deliver local life-changing services. Inverness has always got behind Poppyscotland in the past and I hope that once again this year people will think about what the poppy means to them and, importantly, donate like they mean it so that we can raise even more money this year to continue our life-changing work.”
