A student has spoken out after thieves broke into his house, leaving his young children terrified.

Christopher Haywood says several items totaling £3,000, including a designer handbag, were stolen from their house in Culduthel Mains Court.

He also said his daughter Abby, 5, was afraid of going to school following the break in.

Police are currently investigating a spate of break ins across Culduthel, Lochardil and Inshes.

Christopher says he feels 'stripped naked' of his privacy following the incident.

He said: 'It's a total invasion of your privacy. Sitting in the house and knowing somebody has been in and rifled through your stuff.

'A real invasion of our privacy, stripped naked almost.

'It's a bit odd.'

Officers have confirmed they are looking into several break ins.

Detective Sergeant Christopher Macleod, of Inverness CID, said: 'We are determined to catch those responsible and wish to reassure the public that uniform and plain clothes patrols have been stepped up in these areas of the city.

'We would ask that anyone driving in these areas with Dash-cam footage in their vehicles get in touch, as they may have picked up something of note.

'I would ask the public to be extra vigilant and contact police if they see anyone acting suspiciously in the local community.

'Anyone with information that may assist our ongoing investigation is asked to contact the CID at Burnett Road Police Station, Inverness through 101 quoting incident 2972 of 3 February.

'Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.'
