Inverness boss Richie Foran refused to be downbeat despite the disappointment of a penalty shootout loss to Dundee United.
In his first home game in charge, Foran saw a lot of positives from his side and knows there will be more to come.
Scott Boden had given the Caley Jags the lead in the first half before Stewart Murdoch's superb leveller after the break.
Key penalty misses from Greg Tansey and Ross Draper allowed Simon Murray to nick a bonus point for United, which Foran believed was a harsh outcome.
“On chances alone we controlled it. We both had wee spells of possession but we had enough chances to win the game,” he said.
“Going to penalties is a flip of a coin and obviously I would have loved to win it, but I'm proud of the guys that put their hand up to take one. They had the better penalties today and good luck to them.
“I see lots of positives. Set pieces, crosses in the box, work rate; we've still got a bit to improve on but there's loads of positives.
“I'm delighted with the performance. We can obviously do a little bit better - there's two or three lagging behind in terms of sharpness and fitness and it may take them a couple of games to catch up. Even though it's competitive, it's still essentially pre-season.”
His Dundee United counterpart Ray McKinnon saw his players keep the Tangerines top of the group and was thrilled for his match-winner Cammy Bell.
“Inverness are a right good side, so I was happy with the performance today. Hopefully we can keep building and gelling,” he said.
“I'm delighted for Cammy Bell in the shoot-out because that will be good for him and his confidence. He's a good goalkeeper and we knew that.”
