Injured man in hospital after attack in Forres

Police are appealing for witnesses after an incident near the 'Speedy Pepper' takeaway on the High Street around 2.15am on Sunday morning

A 26 year old suffered minor injuries and was take to Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin.

Officers are keen to trace two women who were seen trying to intervene.

PC Jamie Barclay said: 'I understand that the high street was busy with members of the public at the time of this incident and so it was undoubtedly witnessed by bystanders.

'I am particularly keen to trace two females who were seen attempting to intervene and prevent the assault.

'The first female is described as being aged between 45-65 years old with short grey hair, wearing glasses and dark coloured clothing.

'The second female is described as being aged between 35 and 45 years old with shoulder length brown hair and was seen to be wearing a blue or green anorak with a fur lined hood.

'Anyone with information regarding this incident or suggestions as to the identity of the two females mentioned is asked to contact officers at the Elgin Divisional Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit by calling 101 and quoting reference number 0550 of 20 January.'
