Iconic wartime aircraft outside Moray filling station on sale for £28k
The 63-foot Buccaneer XW 530 was used during the first Gulf War
A fighter aircraft which has sat outside an Elgin filling station for 25 years is up for sale.
The 63-foot Buccaneer XW 530 displayed at the Bishopmill Service Station has a price tag of £28,000.
It was used in the first gulf war in Iraq, before eventually being towed from RAF Lossiemouth to the service station in 1996.
Owner Iain Aitkenhead says it's time to part ways with his beloved aircraft, which has been a hit with Moray residents and visitors.
Iain recalls when the Buccaneer, dubbed 'Glenmorangie', first arrived in Elgin and says he'll miss not having the aircraft.
He said: "It arrived here in 1996, it was kindly towed up by RAF Lossiemouth, we provided a recovery vehicle at the back.
"The Scottish office closed the road (A941), the police helped us out and we got it here.
"I'm quite sad, but it now needs somebody who can give it a lot more attention which it needs.
"Look after it a bit better, hopefully it'll go to a good home.
"It's been a good attraction for the area.
"A lot of holidaymakers have called by, it has been very well photographed over the years by many people.
"It's something to see for the visitors."
Iain owned the filling station when it was the Buccaneer Service Station or also known as 'The Buccaneer.'
He explained why he's having to part ways with it, how people have reacted to him selling it and if he'd like to see it stay in Moray.
He added: "We sold the business it's sitting on and the area it's displayed on is needed for something else
"Some people were a little bit surprised, some of them were also a bit disappointed, but a lot of them understood that it was just part of business.
"That would be good, it's spent most of it's life here."
The buccaneer is currently on sale via Gumtree.
