Plans to transform the historic Dornoch Courthouse into a new retail centre are being unveiled.

The new shopping district will be renamed ‘The Carnegie Couthouse’ and house several local businesses.

Links House at Royal Dornoch proprietors, Todd and Liz Warnock have agreed to purchase the Courthouse, renovate the building and assist in the formation of three new businesses and a new visitor centre.

Subject to planning and other approvals, The Carnegie Whisky Cellars will be located on the ground floor and The Carnegie Tea Room and Deli will be located in the former first floor court room.

The Courthouse will also see Aspen Spa of Tain expand into Dornoch with the opening of Aspen Spa at Carnegie Courthouse.

All these businesses will be owned and managed by local residents.

The bespoke interiors will be appointed with memorabilia from Andrew Carnegie's contributions and relationship with the Dornoch parish.

The rear grounds of the Carnegie Courthouse will also be improved and initially landscaped into public green space.

Mr. Warnock said of the project: “Our goal is to serve as an economic catalyst for Dornoch via the transformation of the beautiful, centrally located, historically significant Courthouse.

“The idea for this project emerged from the Dornoch Masterplan published by Highlands and Islands Enterprise regarding future growth opportunities for Dornoch particularly focused on the tourism sector. And we are excited so many local residents are engaged in various facets of the project; it is a real community effort.”
