Highland Council say due to current "pressures" on school rolls and having also made an analysis of forecasts, the local authority will introduce ‘capping’. This will limiting school rolls in some primaries in Inverness for the 2018-19 academic year.

Beginning in August 2018, the schools affected are Kinmylies Primary, Duncan Forbes Primary, Smithton Primary, Hilton Primary, Holm Primary, Lochardil Primary and Milton of Leys Primary.

Merkinch Primary is capped for this current 2017/18 session. This will be lifted for next session, 2018/19, as the roll forecasts show a gradual decline in the total roll for this school.

Highland Council says it "will do its best" to accommodate all pupils in their preferred choice of school. Priority will be given to children within the catchment area, and then to those with siblings already at the school.
