Steven Gerrard says Juninho Bacuna can be a 'big player' for Rangers - but admits he'll need to be patient with their new midfielder.

The 24-year old joined on Thursday in a permanent deal from Huddersfield Town.

The Ibrox boss is tipping the Curacao international to be a hit at the club but says he won't be thrown straight into the mix.

Bacuna hasn't featured in a competitive match this season with Gerrard saying they'll take a cautious approach with him.

He said: "He's a really big talent. Everyone should be really excited and looking forward to seeing him play.

"I think we have to be patient with him. He hasn't played much football of late.

"I think his last game was the 15th of June. We believe he's a big talent. He just needs the right support around him.

"He needs the right environment to keep progressing and growing.

"I believe we've got the right staff and the right players in the dressing room to help him keep progressing.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing him play.

"He's an attacking midfielder who has got a good range of passing. He's a powerful boy who likes to take it up to people and outplay them.

"He's got a lot of tools in his locker. If he can put everything around that and we can give him the right place to evolve - he should be a big player for this club".
