Fresh appeal to find missing Highland man

72-year-old James Paton disappeared just before Christmas

Police in Inverness have released a new CCTV image of James Paton who was reported missing two days before Christmas.

The 72-year-old was last seen around 1.30pm on Monday, 23 December driving his silver Dacia Duster on the Fanellan Farm Road, near to Ruttle Woods on the south side of the River Beauly.

The CCTV image was taken at the filling station in Beauly a short time before this last sighting.

His car was found near Upper Fanellan on Monday, 23 December with his dog inside.

Officers from Police Scotland's Dive and Marine Unit are carrying out searches on the River Beauly.

Sergeant Brian Bisset of Beauly Police Station said: "Sadly, despite extensive searches we have not been able to locate Mr Paton.

"We are keeping his family fully informed as we continue our enquiries.

"I would continue to urge people to be aware and report anything which may be helpful to police as soon as they can.

"I would also ask local residents to check any sheds, outbuildings or areas where someone could of sought shelter."

James is 5ft 8in tall and of stocky build with grey hair and a beard. He wears glasses.

At the time he went missing, he was wearing black trousers, a purple jumper, green fleece jacket and brown rigger boots.
