Former Ross County boss and Aberdeen legend Neale Cooper has died at the age of 54.

He collapsed within a property in the Bucksburn area of Aberdeen at the early hours of Sunday morning, and was then taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Emergency services had been called to Ferguson Court around 1:45am.

A source has this evening confirmed Cooper passed away with his family by the 54-year-old's hospital bedside.

The former Dunfermline and Rangers player will probably best be remembered for his place in the Aberdeen squad that won the European Cup Winners' Cup back in 1983.

Detective Inspector David Howieson told MFR News: "Our thoughts are with the man's family at this very sad time.

"Our enquiries are still ongoing however the circumstances surrounding this incident do not appear to be suspicious.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as is the case with all sudden deaths."
