Raigmore department closed after flash flooding hits north of Scotland

More than 61mm or rain has been recorded falling in some areas since midnight.

Torrential rain hit Elgin on 6 August 2019 filling some streets with surface water including a stretch of the A941 near the railway station.

The poor weather continued overnight causing issues across the Highlands and Moray.

It hit Carrbridge causing surface water on the A9 near the Slochd Summit in the early hours of 7 August.

Raigmore Hospital was also affected after water started coming in the roof of the Emergency Department, causing the Healthboard to re-locate the waiting area elsewhere for patients.

No other damage has been reported at the hospital and MFR News has been told is will re-open by the end of the working day.

The Emergency Department returned to normal around 1pm Wednesday 7 August.

Travel disruption has also been reported with Scotrail services heading to Inverness being forced to stop at Carrbridge due to water flooding the tracks.

The company has organised replacement bus services for anyone travelling between Inverness and Glasgow or Edinburgh.

And the B862 on the south side of Loch Ness was closed because of a landslip between Foyers and Dores
