Commuters on the A96 were held up earlier after "fish guts" fell onto the road from a lorry.

Images show a queue of traffic between the Threaplands and the Urquhart turn off, due to the spillage.

The Moray News Facebook page uploaded the pictures and said: "A96 expect delays.

"Fish heads and guts on the road.

"A lorry has lost some of its load between Threaplands and the Urquhart turn off.

"Police apparently in attendance, except delays until the road is cleaned."

Social media users saw the funny side to the incident.

One commented: "I hope everyone can find a safe Plaice to pass."

Another said: "Where’s a seagull when you need them?"

A third added: "Oh I don't even want to think of the smell."

Police Scotland have confirmed the road has been cleared.

A spokesperson said:" A lorry lost some of its load when it braked.

"The road was cleared by BEAR and there was no criminality."
