First peak at new Moray Sports Centre
MFR News has been given a tour around the new Moray Sports Centre two weeks before it opens.
The new £12 million pound project is weeks away from completion and our news team got a first peak at the (almost) finished project.
Construction crews are still inside but will hand over the keys at the end of June with the leisure facility opening to the public in July.
It includes a giant sports hall with badminton, basketball, and football courts, fitness studios upstairs, disability-friendly changing rooms and a cafe where spectators can what the activities.
CEO Kathryn Evans said 'There is a few people still doing a bit of decorating, the gym floor is going down waiting for the gym equipment to arrive, the studios are all done, the indoor cycling studio just needs a bit of matting to go down before the heavy bikes go in, and then I think we are pretty much there.
'It is more about getting people physically active, we are not all about elite, we would love to create elite athletes but it's about encouraging everyone as much as possible to make use of the great outdoors.
'Moray and Scotland are beautiful areas so let's have that connection and let's make the most of that.
'Recently the Park Run has become popular. But not everyone can run 5k, so we will have a one kilometre running trail that will come into the outside grounds. With that, every 250 metres there will be a bench, so if you aren't used to running you can start to build up your fitness.
'My favourite room is the mind and body studio, the addition of the LED lighting is something a little bit quirky, it is something I really like.
'And for children that need sensory guidance it just allows us to add a bit more and become fully inclusive.'
