First Minister says 'cheerio' to outgoing President Donald Trump

Nicola Sturgeon says, "Don't haste ye back."

"Don't haste ye back."

That was the message from the First Minister to outgoing President Donald Trump as he leaves the White House after four years.

Nicola Sturgeon said she was very happy to say "cheerio" to Trump during First Minister's Questions this afternoon.

Nicola Sturgeon added, "In advance of the inauguration, I'm sure we all want to send our congratulations to soon to be President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris."

Trump is heading to his resort in Florida as Joe Biden prepares to be sworn in as America's 46th President.

He is the first to skip his successor's inauguration since Andrew Johnson in 1869, and only the fourth to have done so in history.

Speaking before boarding the plane, he told supporters it had been "an incredible" four years and thanked his family,
