Don’t let dull dates get in the way of romance. Instead try our first date ideas guide for something special this weekend. Here are a few of our favourite date ideas and venues in our historical city…

Meet the Dolphins Take a boat trip off shore to see the beautiful views and spot the wildlife along the River Ness and Moray Firth. A boat trip will give you and your date something to chat about and is a great chance to see wildlife such as seals, dolphins and osprey. It’s a date with a difference and not something you can do just anywhere – hopefully one you won’t want to end either.

Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle Just a short drive from Inverness is the famous Loch Ness. You and you date can explore the ruins of Urquhart Castle and look out over the loch – why not take a picnic and see who can spot the legendary Loch Ness Monster?

Victorian Market The Victorian Market is a lovely undercover arcade and hall full of a range of shops. There are jewellers (too soon?), clothing boutiques, food stalls to get a bite to eat and craft shops. There really is something for everyone here and the Victorian location is a stunning setting for a date.

Craig Phadrig The Craig Phadrig hill overlooks the city below - why not invite your date to meet you early and take the climb to the top together where you can watch the sun come up. It could be very romantic as the early morning light spreads across the city and might just ignite that spark. Once you’re ready you could go for a walk or bike ride back through the forest.

Plodda Falls Plodda Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Scotland. You can find trail routes that will lead you to the heart of the waterfall by bike or by foot. Why not make a day of it by packing a picnic and a bottle of fizz to share for the perfect day out?

Nairn Central Beach This beautiful sandy beach is backed by low sand dunes and has lovely views across the Moray Firth. It’s also home to a resident school of dolphins so why not spend the day on the sand, enjoying ice cream and eating from the nearby tea rooms before taking a walk on the promenade to see if you can spot them?

A trip to the Theatre Eden Court Theatre close to the banks of the River Ness has recently undergone a complete refurbishment and major extension adding a second theatre to keep up with demand - so there’s even more to see when you visit. For all the latest events and exhibitions check their website.

Botanic Gardens Meet up at the botanic gardens and enjoy breakfast on the terrace overlooking the fragrant gardens - it’s perfect for a sunny weekend morning. You can make a day of it soaking up the warmth in the romantic and exotic surroundings or head out to the nearby.
