Firefighters tackle 'extensive' wildfire in Highlands
Firefighters are tackling a large wildfire in the Highlands.
About 20 firefighters remain at the scene of a large wildfire in the Highlands.
Crews have been tackling two blazes on a hillside in Sutherland which broke out at about 7pm on Tuesday.
At their height, the fires on Ben Blandy, east of Tongue, covered a total area of seven square kilometres.
They have been scaled back and pose no immediate danger to property or livestock, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said.
A statement said: "Firefighters immediately set out a plan to avert any risk to property and power lines, spraying the fires with water and using beaters to quell the flames.
"Operations were scaled back overnight due to lack of visibility and recommenced during daybreak, where the fire was split into four separate sectors.
"Thanks to the hard-working effort of our crews in sweltering conditions, the fire is now down to an area of around two square kilometres with firefighters working towards each other on two separate sectors. A further two sectors are on a watching brief."
