A person has been taken to hospital after an explosion at a block of flats in Fraserburgh.

Crews and four fire engines battled the blaze in Moray Road after being called shortly after noon on Friday 6th March.

It’s understood the flames broke out in a ground floor flat and Scottish Fire and Rescue said the property has suffered substantial damage.

It is not known what caused the explosion but the SFRS said gas engineers had been called to the scene.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 12.07pm to a fire on Moray Road, Fraserburgh.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews, our special operations response and our trauma team to the scene and transported a male patient to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”

Police said they were called at 12.20pm to reports of an explosion.

The road was closed between College Bounds and Gallowhill Road.

A spokesman for gas distribution company SGN said: "We were called to a property in Moray Road, Fraserburgh, by the emergency services at around midday following reports of an explosion.

"Our engineers have made safe, carried out safety checks and left the site at around 2.30pm. The incident was not related to our gas network."
