More than 800 people around the UK have reported seeing a mysterious "fireball" shoot across the sky - but experts now believe it was "space debris".

At around 10pm on Wednesday 14 September, the flying object was visible for at least 10 seconds and left a green trail in the skies.

The UK Meteor Network received hundreds of reports of sightings, across Northern Ireland, Scotland, and even as far as London.

People posted on social media, wondering whether what they saw was a meteor shower, fireworks or a UFO.

But, The UK Meteor Network tweeted this morning that the object was likely to be "space debris" which would have landed in the Atlantic south of the Hebrides.
