Fire crews are still at the scene of a major wildfire behind the water treatment works in Dornoch.
Six appliances are still at the site carrying out firefighting operations. At its height last night there were eight pumps, the welfare unit, water carrier, incident command unit and all-terrain vehicle.
The fire was first reported at around 12.30pm yesterday afternoon.
Crews have been working throughout the night to bring the fire under control. From first light this morning firefighters have been dealing with a three mile fire-front.
The dry conditions and strong winds have made firefighting challenging.
Group Manager John MacDonald, who was Incident Commander last night, said: "We are dealing with a very protracted wildfire incident which covers a wide area and where access is difficult in places.
"I would like to pay tribute to the commitment and effort of fire crews who have been dealing with this incident.
"I'd also like to thank local residents for their assistance and support during this incident."
