A fatal accident inquiry is to be held into the death of a Caithness lorry driver whose vehicle crashed on the Berriedale Braes almost a year ago.

Emergency services converged on the accident scene on the south brae and cutting gear was required to free northbound Bruce Cormack.

The A9 was closed for eight hours and northbound traffic had to be diverted via Strathhalladale in Sutherland.

The accident occurred on the night of the Scottish independence referendum and held up the Highland count at Dingwall.

Mr Cormack, who lived at Duran, was a partner in the local haulage firm of W D Cormack and Sons.

He was 41-years-old and married with a son.

The inquiry into his death is scheduled to take place on December 21, at Wick.
